Rod Schutt was drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in 1976 in the first round, 13th overall from the Sudbury Wolves of the OHA.  He played for the Canadiens for only 2 games in 1978 and was then traded to the to the Pittsburgh Penguins before the start of the 1978-79 season.  Schutt played eight years in the NHL, 286 games, scored 77 goals and 99 assists. He finished his career playing 6 games with the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1985. Early in January of 1981, the Penguins introduced these heavy yellow mesh jerseys with screened on logo and numbers, front and back. The first set was a Stall and Dean manufactured jersey.  This particular Sandow SK type was the second set and was used for the remainder of the season through the playoffs.  This Schutt game used jersey is hammered with use. The all original gamer showing shows several large sticks marks on the top right side and down at the lower left and hem.  The left arm numbers are damaged from slashes with the left elbow housing 4 penguins type repairs with many more board burns, slash marks and general filth that has discoloured the white stripe.  The right arm at the elbow has 2 repairs with more slashes, stick marks and board burns. The back has a large board burn at the bottom with the fight strap sewing joining the back numbers with the Sandow SK logo on the hem.  Inside out, the skate lace fight strap is a very nice touch rounding out this nicely worn Penguins gamer.  These yellow jerseys have become favourites for the vintage and Penguins collectors alike.  This jersey comes directly from the collection of long-time equipment man for the Penguins, John Doolan.
