Mark Hardy was drafted by the Los Angles Kings in 1979 in the 2nd round, 30th overall from the Montreal Juniors of the QMJHL. After playing eight seasons with the Kings, in February 1988, he was traded to the New York Rangers for Ron Dugay. Amazingly hammered heavy weight mesh gamer here from Mark Hardys 1988-89 season with the Rangers. This jersey has it all for any enforcers jersey collection showing great wear, fight abuse and photo matched to a Midland Bank Issued hockey card, included with the jersey. You can see the stick mark below the E on the front matching this one up perfectly. The collar shows incredible stretching and popped stitching all around it from tussling with other NHL tough guys. The front of the jersey shows several black stick marks, loose threads to the identifiers, and more loose threads at the lower left seem. The right arm has some unrepaired holes, black stick marks, board burns and some of the stitching coming loose in the elbow area. The left arm shows more stick marks, red board paint and many loose threads all down the seem and around the elbow sewing. The back name and numbers have loose threads throughout with signs of many washings with a CCM tag sewn in the hem. There is a repair on the left seem where the left arm is sewn, on with that repairs threading coming loose. The inside shows heavy pilling at the elbows and lower hem with the fight strap showing that same type of stretching and abuse as the collar. A Gerry Cosby tag in the collar, correct for the era is flanked by a CCM designation below. This jersey comes with a letter from team President and General Manager at the time, Neil Smith, certifying the jersey as being from the 88-89 season. Rangers jerseys are always in high demand and this one checks many boxes. An 18-year career enforcer, photo matched with fight abuse covering this beauty. Mark Hardy is the first player ever born in Switzerland to play in the NHL. His career in the NHL spanned 15 seasons. He played in 915 career games, scoring 62 goals and 306 assists for 368 points while adding 1293 penalty minutes as an enforcer. Hardy is ranked third in all-time scoring in the Kings organization. His best offensive season was the 1984–85 season when he set career highs with 14 goals and 53 points. In 1992–93 Hardy and the Kings went to the Stanley Cup Finals for the first time in Kings' history. Hardy delivered what was called at the time an "iconic hit" in Game 3, when the Kings were down 3-0 in the second, putting Montreal Canadiens' Mike Keane through the boards with enough force to disrupt two panes of glass to change the momentum of the game. The Kings scored three second period goals, but lost 4-3 in overtime.
