Original Maple Leaf Gardens Blue Prints – one of a kind

The shovel is in the ground in May and five months later on November 12, the Leafs are playing the Blackhawks to a capacity crowd. That is absolutely astonishing. At is peak building phase there were a thousand workers a day using old steam-powered technology The project management had to be remarkable. The drawing, the earliest stamped May 31, 1931 shows property of design firm ‘Ross & Macdonald’. At great expense the tablecloth-sized renderings were restored and professionally laminated. This blueprint, credited to Ross & Macdonald and Associate Architects Jack Ryrie and Mackenzie Waters, features the rink oval where 11 Cups would be earned and the first seating chart for 13,000 marked with the proposed colour codes, reds, blues and greens. Its a complicated building with new innovations and specialized electrical/mechanical systems. Seeing the actual plans gives a person a new and different perspective of the building. Its possible the only other Gardens blueprints would be the originals in the City Archives or the Ontario Architects Association. 40 x 65 inches
