Shawshank Redemption (1994) - Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins) Original "Dear Red" Letter

Letter penned by Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins) to Ellis "Red" Redding (Morgan Freeman) in Frank Darabont's prison drama, The Shawshank Redemption. Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins) is sentenced to two consecutive life terms in prison for the murders of his wife and her lover and is sentenced to a tough prison. However, only Andy knows he didn't commit the crimes. While there, he forms a friendship with Red (Morgan Freeman), experiences brutality of prison life, adapts, helps the warden, etc., all in 19 years. Discovered by Red (Morgan Freeman) after his release from Shawshank Prison under a stonewall toward the film's conclusion. Commencing with the words, "Dear Red, If you're reading this, you've gotten out. And if you've come this far, maybe you're willing to come a little further," the handwritten message in black ink extends an invitation to Red to join him in Zihuatanejo, Mexico where the two reunite at the end of the film. This lot comes from the assistant to Morgan Freeman and is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity from Studio Auctions.
