Jimmy Durante Signed Once-in-a-Lifetime Tribute Request Letter to Danny Kaye.

Danny Kaye, 1964, Danny Kaye. Vintage 1-page typed letter from Jimmy Durante to Danny Kaye on the official letterhead of the "Once-in-a-Lifetime / Tribute to the Negro Performer." The letter is an invitation from Durante, who was the chairman of the event, asking Kaye to join him as an honorary chairman for the tribute. The event aimed to honor the achievements of African-American performers in the entertainment industry, a cause both men supported throughout their careers. In his letter, Durante writes in part, “Won't you please join me as an Honorary Chairman in this ‘Once In A Lifetime Tribute to the Negro Performer?' I would appreciate your signing the enclosed card and joining me in helping N.A.G. continue its outstanding work in the entertainment industry." The letter is signed “Cordially, Jimmy Durante," and includes blue and red underlined sentences highlighting important actions for Kaye to address. With handwritten note at bottom: “DK - OK - Card filled out + mailed 11-26-64," confirming that Kaye reviewed, approved, and took action on the request.
