Danny Kaye, 1948-1965, Danny Kaye. This vintage 1-page typed and signed letter from George Jessel to Danny Kaye, dated September 23, 1965, offers a delightful glimpse into the playful and affectionate camaraderie between two Hollywood legends. On the official letterhead from the “Offices of George Jessel / Paramount Studios / Embassy Studios / Hollywood 38, Calif.," and featuring a comedic, tongue-in-cheek diatribe, with Jessel humorously berating Kaye for not answering a phone call. Jessel writes in part, “You refused to give me the courtesy of answering my call or advising your secretary to do so and you must have had the time while powdering your cheeks to say, “Thanks George for telling me about my daughter". Then of course the importance of getting home to cook Chinese goo made it impossible for you to pick up a phone." Jessel continues with his trademark humor, concluding, “I regret to say Danny that my admiration for you as an artist fully equals my disgust in you as a human being." Despite the tone, the letter reflects the deep respect and friendship these two icons shared, even through light-hearted jabs. Signed by Jessel, this piece of correspondence is a rare collectible that captures the wit and humor that defined both men's careers. Also included is a black leatherette check holder with gold gilt “Danny Kaye" on the cover, and “Friars George Jessel Dinner" on the inside left sleeve. These were given to guests attending the 1948 Roast of George Jessel. Measuring 8.5 x 11 in. Exhibiting minor handling and original transmittal folds. In vintage very good to fine condition. From the personal collection of Danny and Sylvia Fine Kaye.
