In 1969, Don Tannahill was selected in the first round, third overall by the Boston Bruins from the Niagara Fall Flyers from the OHA, but never played for the Bruins. In June 1972 he was claimed by the Vancouver Canucks and scored two hat tricks in his rookie season. Sewn to the hem of this Tannahill 72-73 rookie gamer is the proper Rawlings tagging size 50. The stick style crest and vintage blue and green Canucks colours just scream old time hockey. The game use on this sweater consists of stick marks, board burns, heavy inner pilling and un-repaired holes. There is a nice stick mark that runs throughout the top of the crest and towards the collar. The identifiers all show signs of many washings as they are very soft showing full season use. A very faint outline remains visible on each shoulder of what were Molson patches. The Canucks were known to use their game jerseys at random for alumni games and would add these patches to the shoulders. Nice garter belt fight strap sewn into this heavy weight durene gamer. This is a fine-looking example that remains all original in all other respects. Worn 44 years ago during the 3rd year of the Vancouver Canuck’s existence this heavy durene jersey would be a welcome addition to any vintage collection. Donald Tannahill was born February 21, 1949, in Penetanguishene, Ontario, he played on the 1971-72 Boston team that won the AHL regular season and name to AHL All-Star Second Team in Boston. He retired after playing 222 games in the WHA with the Minnesota Fight Saints and Calgary Cowboys, and 111 games in the NHL with the Vancouver Canucks, he scored 27 goals and had 30 assists. Tannahill also played for several minor league teams in a career that lasted from 1969 to 1978.
