David O. Selznick Signed Letter to Sylvia Kaye.

Danny Kaye, 1958, Sylvia Kaye. Vintage typed letter on 8.5 x 11 in. stationery dated “7 May 1958," from legendary producer David O. Selznick to Sylvia Kaye, letting her down regarding work as a lyricist. The letter reads, in part: “...and of course I understand perfectly your unwillingness to serve in an assistant or associate producing capacity, if this could not be accompanied by your assignment to the lyrics. But your attitude nevertheless seems to make clear, at least as far as ‘Scarlet O'Hara' is concerned, that we are not going to be working together…Cordially and sincerely," and it is boldly signed in black ink, “David." The letter is ink stamped “May 7 1958" on the verso. Sylvia Kaye, an American composer, lyricist, and writer, is best known for her contributions to musical theater and popular music in the mid-20th century. She was connected to Selznick through her husband, actor Danny Kaye, who had a strong relationship with him. Exhibiting expected age, original transmittal folds, and minor perforations from a staple at the top left. In vintage very good to fine condition.
