Borje Salming used this stick during the 1980-81 season. Canadien was his stick of choice and this one fits the mold perfectly. Fully taped blade that has a couple stands missing, exposing the torched area of the blade, in order to curve it more than was done at the factory. The bottom of the blade has been sanded down, taking off the fiberglass to make it flat for more puck control. No cracks or breaks on the blade and as you move up the sticks shaft, past the rainbow accent tape, the manufacturing date is stamped, 27 January 1981. This same spiral tape pattern can be seen in the photos as can the same type of stick. Slash marks, puck marks and many marks from other NHL sticks can be seen along the lower shaft. The tape he used for grip has also broke in some areas. Just below the Pro labelling, a faded autograph reads, Best Wishes Borje Salming. Salming name stamp just below the typical Salming butt end tape job being of the messy variety. A really nice game used Salming stick, worthy of a Hall of Fame collection, this one has it all. Signed as a free agent by the Toronto Maple Leafs on 12 May 1973, Borje Salming would spend 16 seasons with the Blue and White, with NHL All-Star Game appearances in 1976, 1977 and 1979. Salming is also the all-time franchise leader in points, goals and assists for defenceman. Salming will forever be considered not just one of the best defensemen of his era, but of all time. Going against the stigma around European players in hockey, Salming was a fierce warrior on the ice, demonstrating a physicality and fearlessness that blew people away. He was a two-time runner-up for the Norris Trophy for the league's best defenseman, finishing his NHL career with 150 goals and 637 assists for 787 points in 1,148 career games. In 1996, his first year of eligibility, Salming became the first European born and trained player inducted into the and in 2017, the NHL named Salming one of the in the first century of the league.
