Really nice Bobby Nystrom game used Koho 221 stick, wielded during the Islanders Stanley Cup run in the early eighties. The photo shown is from the 1980 Cup Finals playing the Flyers with this exact type stick in his hands. Nystrom scored the game winning goal to clinch the series for the Islanders and take home their first Cup win. The fully taped blade is solid with one small chip out of the bottom end which does not detract from this beauty of a gamer. Many hack, slash and puck marks adorn the blade and shaft with all the Koho cellophane accent tape intact. A Nystrom name stamp sits just below his typical butt end tape job with white gauze tape over top of black. The gauze tape has turned very dark from use and the black tape bleeding through. In the other photo, you can see the white over black tape showing the style he used. No cracks or breaks other than what is mentioned, this is a perfect gamer from a 4 time Stanley Cup champion. Make sure you get this one home if you collect top players lumber. Nystrom played his full 14 year career with the Islanders. "Bobby Ny was, and is, the most intensely fierce competitor I've ever known," says 1980 Olympic hero and four Islanders Cup-winner Ken Morrow, the team's long time Director of Pro Scouting. Such kudos are endless and all come from the heart because if anyone in National Hockey League annals played with his ticker operating at "full" all of the time, this Swedish native was it. Call Nystrom what you will, dauntless, daring, determined, take your pick of adjectives, it all comes down to Bob becoming the face of the Islanders franchise. The "Peoples' Player" on The Peoples' Team. "He was there at the start during our toughest times," General Manager Bill Torrey once said, "and he was there for the glory days”. Were there such a title as Mister Islander it would fit Nystrom like a Brooks Brothers suit. "He was truly a very unique player," says Glenn (Chico) Resch, both a teammate and then foe of Nystrom. "You could not pigeon-hole him as a 'this' or 'that' kind of guy because he could everything. And I do mean everything!" Nystrom has been known as one of the all-time clutch players in NHL playoff history. He tallied 39 goals and 83 points in 157 playoff games, however he is most noted for his knack for overtime winners. Nystrom ended playoff overtime games four times in his career. On May 24, 1980, in game six of the against the , Nystrom scored the game winner at 7:11 of overtime on an assist from to secure the first Stanley Cup in franchise history.
