20th Century Fox, 1986. Model miniature static puppet of an instantly recognizable xenomorph constructed of cast rubber over poseable metal armature, with hard cast resin head. Constructed like a stop-motion puppet with pegs in the feet for affixing to FX table. Expertly studio painted and finished in shades of H. R. Giger grays and black. The use of commercial toys for the basis of background figures or props on miniature sets is nothing new. Casting of Alien toys were employed for assisting the filmmakers in realizing elements in scenes in the 1986 movie. A derivation of the Kenner "Alien" action figure was used as a visualization aid during the movie's unforgettable "˜hive' scenes. The figures were used for lighting and scaling models, as well as in set design development, all of which is an important part of aiding filmmakers in communicating concepts and solving problems during the previsualization process. Improvised miniature sets featuring these figures have been documented from preproduction on. The cast Alien figure is highly visible in production photos. The figure itself is not a Kenner Alien action figure but rather a casting of the Tsukuda Hobby Jumbo Alien figure, released in 1984. The body and limbs are made of molded foam latex with the head being a separate resin casting. An LOA conveying the figure's authenticity was provided by Faisal Karim who worked with Aliens Academy Award-winning visual effects supervisor, Dennis Skotak. Skotak confirms the details of this piece. The Aliens art department produced an extremely limited number of these visualization figures. Only 4 examples are known to exist with this example previously in a museum and obtained from that museum. Measuring 17.5 x 8.5 x 8 in. Exhibiting minor production wear and age, with some sensitive repairs. In vintage very good condition.
