Set of (2) World War I era Walt Disney photographs, both with his personal notations written on the back. Including 1-snapshot of Disney on a tank in France staring at the landscape beyond, with "looking over the Hindenburg line" handwritten on the verso. Also included is 1-photo of the Champs-Élysées taken by Walt Disney from the Arc de Triomphe with Disney's handwritten notation on the verso "champs-elysee in 'Gay Paris'." These photographs were sent by a young Walt Disney to his high school friend, Virginia Baker, while Walt was serving in the Red Cross. Walt was himself a teenager at that time, around 16 or 17 years old. He entered the Red Cross at 16 after lying about his age, and finished his service within a year. Virginia Baker's friendship with the teenaged Walt Disney is documented in bestselling historian Neal Gabler's monumental book about the legendary entertainment mogul, Walt Disney: The Triumph of the Imagination, considered among the great works of biographical nonfiction of the 21st century. Each photograph measures approx. 2.75 x 2 in. Exhibiting expected age and handling, with some gentle creasing and impressions to the emulsion. In vintage very good condition.
