Saving Private Ryan, 1998, Paramount. Production used collection of (3) weapon props including 1-cast foam rubber M3 Trench Knife with hand painted brown grip and black blade, 1-black cast rubber background German Pistol, and 1-static Karabiner 98k Rifle constructed of metal, rigid cast rubber and cast resin, with thick brown leather strap. Just as the M1 Garand is standard-issue for the American forces, the Karabiner 98k bolt-action rifle is the standard-issue weapon for the German military. During the battle at Ramelle, SS Grenadiers are shown armed almost exclusively with Kar98k rifles, including “Steamboat Willie" (Joerg Stadler), who fatally wounds “Captain Miller" (Tom Hanks) with his Kar98k.
