Orr’s debut with Boston was on October 19, 1966 against Detroit and he received a ‘welcome to the league’ elbow from Gordie Howe. Orr, just 18 years old didn’t disappoint winning the Calder Trophy as rookie of year and making the second all-star team. It was apparent that Orr would dominate the NHL he and went on to win the James Norris Trophy as the best defenceman for the next 8 years.
