1955. Marlon Brando's personally owned vintage 1947 Omega wrist watch, a remarkable gift from the iconic Marilyn Monroe on the occasion of Brando's 31st birthday. While Brando and Monroe were an item for a brief time in 1955, they remained friends for the remainder of Monroe's life. The silver case of the Swiss made watch measures approx. 1.25 in. round and features gold hour and minute hands, along with gold hour markers set against a pristine pearlescent ivory dial. Engraved on the back are heartfelt words, "Happy Birthday Bud / Love M / April 3, 1955," showcasing the personal connection between the two stars. The watch retains its original sleek black leather Omega wristband, with alligator texture enhancing its elegance. In the 1950s, timepieces transcended practical function to become powerful symbols of fashion and status. Hollywood men, including Brando, gravitated towards luxury watches that reflected their power and sophistication. The wristwatch emerged as an essential accessory. Brands like Omega, celebrated for their precision and luxury, resonated with the Hollywood elite, who sought to showcase their affluence and impeccable taste. Although Brando and Monroe's romance was short lived, their connection was marked by intense attraction and speculation about their brief affair. Set against the glamorous and tumultuous backdrop of 1950s Hollywood, Brando and Monroe's relationship paired the two burgeoning "sex symbols" in one of Hollywood's earliest and most potent examples of a "power couple" imaginable for their era. Exhibiting age and minor wear. Crystal unmarked or scratched. In vintage very good to fine condition.
