Collection of (2) ephemera from the legendary 1962 birthday party for President John F. Kennedy, including 1-torn ticket stub for the May 19 "Gala All Star Show" at Madison Square Garden. The 6 x 4 in. red, white, and blue printed ticket features a photo of the President and reads, in part: "President Kennedy's Birthday Party" and is designated for "Orchestra, Sec. G, Row 4, Seat 2." Also includes a program for the event, which lists Chairmen, Committees, and Patrons as well as the evening's lineup including: Ella Fitzgerald, Danny Kaye, Peggy Lee, Henry Fonda, Maria Callas, Jack Benny, Peter Lawford (known to have introduced Marilyn to the President), Mike Nichols and Elaine May, and Diahann Carroll. In and of itself, the gala for President Kennedy was historical. However, it is also viewed as a significant event in Monroe's career as her breathy rendition of "Happy Birthday, Mister President" is still revered and often referenced in our culture today. Monroe is known to have called in sick to the set of Something's Got To Give at 20th Century Fox studios in Los Angeles to fly to New York to make her appearance wearing her unforgettable sheer nude and crystal-studded skin-tight Jean Louis gown.
