The Sand Pebbles, 1966, 20th Century-Fox. Vintage collection of (200+) contact sheets and (100+) behind the scenes publicity stills from director Robert Wise's The Sand Pebbles, featuring cast and crew. Set in 1920s China, the film follows an American sailor's moral conflict aboard a U.S. gunboat, exploring themes of isolation, cultural clash, and military intervention. Among the various images included here are stars and crew setting up shots, putting on makeup, conferring behind the camera, and all the dynamic behind-the-scenes hustle and bustle that comes with the making of a major motion picture. These contact sheets were originally procured directly from the studio of origin and used in the making of documentary materials. Exhibits expected age, minor wear, and handling.
