Hartland Monahan was drafted by the California Golden Seals in 1971 in the 4th round, 43rd overall from the Montreal Junior Canadiens of the OHL. He played only one game before he was traded to the New York Rangers. He went on to play for various teams before landing with the St. Louis Blues in the 1979 Expansion Draft. This heavy weight St. Louis Blues durene gamer was worn by Hartland Monahan during the 1980-81 season. It shows nice use all over with a repair on the right chest area, pilling all over both elbows, washed out stick marks with heavy blue staining at both cuffs, most likely from his blue leather gloves. All the identifiers show signs of many washings as well as several loose threads and stick marks. The name plate seems to have been either moved or taken from his previous seasons jersey and applied to this one as he spent the full 1979-80 season with the Blues. Inside this 44-year-old vintage jersey sits a very cool double fight strap as well as pilling in the elbows and some blood stains at the shoulder. The tagging in the neck has been torn out and only the threading remains. The two press photos show the only 2 home jerseys that Hartland would have worn during both his seasons with the Blues. We only use them as a photo reference as we can not verify a 100% photo match. These types of Blues jerseys are getting hard to find as collectors have been keeping them locked away once they’re found. Hartland Monahan played for seven seasons in the NHL, he played for six teams, 334 games, scored 61 goals and had 80 assists. His best season was in 1976-77, when he had an NHL career-high 50 points (23 goals, 27 assists) in 79 games with the Capitals. Monahan's father-in-law was the late Hall of Famer Bernie "Boom Boom" Geoffrion and was the father of former Major League Baseball player Shane Monahan. In 2014, a hockey arena in Hartland's hometown of Laval Quebec, was named in his honor after a letter writing campaign after his passing.
