This is one very interesting stick from big time player and Hall of Famer Bobby Hull. Hull was a businessman from early on and when the stick manufacturers refused to pay him to use their sticks, he had the graphics removed from all of his sticks. Talk about a sign of things to come as Hull was an early and maybe the first advocate for players rights. This very rare style being a Louisville Slugger, was used by Hull in the early seventies while racking up points for the Detroit Red Wings. It shows amazing use with no cracks or breaks with some of the tape on the blade having been smashed off the back. The bull dog tape remains complete on the front with Hull's name boldly printed on both side in Louisville fashion. The lower accent tape is missing with the top one almost complete. As mentioned, no graphics up the shaft and that’s where we find the typical Bobby Hull shaved knob that he had on all is game used sticks, with bull dog tape surrounding it for extra grip. The photos show Hull using blank sticks like this, but we were unable to find a shot of him using on of these exact type. Hull blank sticks like this are an amazing and rare piece of history. They speak to an early time when players had no rights and guys were starting to realize they needed some control over themselves as pro NHL players. This one in particular being a Louisville Slugger is one eye catching stick for any high end collection. Bobby Hull, born January 3, 1939 – January 30, 2023 was a Canadian professional player who is widely regarded as one of the greatest players of all time. His blond hair, skating speed, end-to-end rushes, and ability to shoot the puck at very high velocity all earned him the nickname "the Golden Jet". His talents were such that an opposing player was often assigned just to shadow him. During his 23-year playing career, from 1957 to 1980, he played in both the and , with the , , and . He won the as the NHL's most valuable player twice and the as the NHL's leading point scorer three times, while helping the Black Hawks win the in 1961. He also led the WHA's Winnipeg Jets to championships in 1976 and 1978. He led the NHL in goals seven times, the second most of any player in history, and led the WHA in goals one additional time while being the WHA's most valuable player two times. He was elected to the in 1983, the in 1997, and received the in 2003. In 2017 Hull was named one of the '' in history.
